Special Behind the Walls Tour at YS Bellevue 41st Project

On Sunday, August 29th at 1:00pm please join us for a special tour of the latest project from YS Development.  The YS Bellevue 41st project is a collection of what will be 4 custom designed green homes.  At this point of construction there will be one home well on it’s way, one home preparing to have the foundation poured, and a third having just come throught the design phase with the homeowners.  Learn about each step in the process of designing and building a green home guided by Yuval Sofer from YS Development and Matt Muhsam from GreenDwellingSeattle.

August Green Home Tour-Targeting LEED Platinum at 436dwell

This month we are excited to visit the latest project by one of Seattle premier green builder Dwell Development.  Exceeding Built Green 5-Star and targeting LEED Platinum certification, 436dwell is destined to be one of the most efficient speculative homes built to date in the city of Seattle.  Utilizing techniques such as superior air sealing and insulation Dwell has been able to achieve a nearly airtight building envelope with this home, setting the stage for phenomenal energy efficiency.

July 2010 Green Home Tour-Shilshole Pointe Geothermal

 

Saturday, July 24th.  This month we are very excited to have an opportunity to take a closer look at Seattle’s first geothermal community.  The Shilshole Pointe project by JRJ Development at it’s completion, will be a collection of seven Built Green 4-Star homes in the Sunset Hill neighborhood of Ballard.  Aside from the Geothermal system, other various features include 50 year metal roofs, super insulated walls and ceiling, Energy Star appliances, low VOC finishes, water conserving fixtures, rain barrels, drought tolerant plantings, and more.  5 of the 7 homes are in varying stages of completion.  We will start with the completed “Captains House”, and have an opportunity to view other homes in the project and see the different stages in a green building project.

June Green Home Tour

This month we are very excited to be visiting a full green remodel by Seattle’s own Envision Homes.  It remains somewhat of a work in progress, but reveals the companies passion for residential remodeling that touches on every facet of sustainable living.  If you have ever thought of a major green remodel you will want to join us on this month’s tour.  It will be an amazing opportunity to see the full range of green building materials and to meet and discuss the process, experience  and objectives with the homeowner.

May Green Home Tour-1105dwell

Saturday, May 8th 11:00 am. This month we will be returning to the site of Dwell Development’s latest project 1105dwell, in Seattle’s Judkins Park neighborhood.  After 8 months of looking at many of the individual parts of this project on the our website, this tour will be a truly complete green building educational experience.  We will have a guided tour of the ecoHAUS building products facility, a light lunch, and then head to the project to see how all of this comes together to make a beautiful, healthy, efficient home.  Click the 1105dwell logo to the right for the complete progression.    

Targeting Built Green 5-Star 3rd party verified certification, Energy Star Certified, and amongst the first homes in the city to receive the EnergySmart Home Scale.  Outside of the widespread use of sustainable materials and non-toxic finishes energy has been a major focus of this project.  Energy modeling that has been performed estimates that the four homes will be up to 45% more efficient than other homes built to the IECC 2004 home.  Performance at these levels translates to annual estimated energy costs for heat and hot water at $750!!

February 2010 Green Home Tour

For this month’s tour we will be visiting Beau Developments new urban lofts project in Seattle’s Judkins Park Neighborhood.  This community of homes are very unique not only for their extensive use of green building materials, but for the fact that they will be the first homes in the city of Seattle to be certified under the US Department of Energy Builder’s Challenge program.  They are estimated to provide their homeowner’s with a 40% reduction in energy costs over homes built to the 2004 IECC home

As with all of our tours, they are intended to be more than just a tour of a home, but a complete green building experience.  Participants are given an introduction to common green building materials at ecoHAUS and then a quided tour of a selected green project led by the people that are responsible for the homes design and construction.

Tour starts at ecoHAUS at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 13th and will conclude at roughly 2:00 pm at the Beau Development site.  Refreshments will be served at ecoHAUS before carpooling to the tour of these homes.

Behind the Walls at 1105 Dwell

The GreenDwellingSeattle tours are designed to be more than just a walk through a home, but a complete green building experience.  Participants are given an introduction to common green building materials at ecoHAUS and then a guided tour of a select green home led by the people that are responsible for the homes design and construction.  This month we will be taking a behind the walls tour of Dwell Development’s latest project in Judkins Park.  We will have a chance to see the construction techniques, materials, and systems up close.  This will be a truly unique experience that should not be missed.

GreenDwellingSeattle October 2009 Green Home Tour

Kirkland Duo East Home

This month’s tour takes us back to the Eastside and to another pioneering work by Yuval Sofer and YS Development.  We will be visiting the second home of the Kirkland Duo project.  The Kirkland Duo project is the first and second Built Green 4-Star homes in Kirkland.  YS Development has dedicated the past two years to this project and has assembled a dedicated group of architects, designers, and engineers to create these wonderful homes.  In December 2008 the West house of the Duo project was chosen as one of a select group of Built Green Case Study homes.

The focus of October’s tour will be the East home of the project  featuring sustainable building materials and technologies such as Advanced Framing, FSC Certified Flooring, a Green Roof, and a Heat Recovery Ventilation System.  Designed by renowned Place Architects and built to custom home standards, the Duo project  has been recognized by the City of Kirkland Green Building Program as a showcase of what is possible in well-designed, environmentally friendly, suburban new home construction.
